Fannie Gertrude Ellis, daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Ellis, was born in Tioga Co., New York, November 25, 1854, and passed away October 17, 1935, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 22 days. When she was three years old she moved with her parents to Harrison, Wisconsin, and at the age of seven went to Huntley, Illinois, where she was raised to young womanhood. February 20, 1872, she was united in marriage to Rosele Lester. To this union was born Nellie Edith who died April 13, 1889, and Lucy Melissa who died at the age of two. Mr. Lester died in 1876. On November 23, 1881, she was married to W.W. Burgess. To them was born one son, F. Earl. Mr. Burgess died in 1916. She came to Pierson in May 1885 and was one of the first residents in town. She was one of the first members of the Ladies Aid Society when it was organized March 14, 1891. She united with the Methodist church forty-four years ago and has remained a faithful and active member. Those who survive include her son, F. Earl Burgess of Sheldon, two stepsons, A.E. Burgess and William G. Burgess, both of Los Angeles, California, and seven grandchildren.
