She was born Aug. 30, 1909, in Ottumwa to Ernest R. and Edna Rae McManis Palmgren. She married Chauncey A. Brown Feb. 2, 1927, in Rock Island, Ill. He preceded her in death March 10, 1991. A graduate of Davenport High School, she attended Davenport Conservatory. She had worked at Montgomery Ward, Marquette, Mich, and J.W. Knapps Department Store, Lansing, Mich, before retiring in 1972. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Lansing, Mich, and was active in A.A.R P. in public relations. Surviving are three daughters, Betty Beland of Saline, Mich., Phyllis Hoffenbacher of Southfield, Mich., and Beverly Miller of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sons, Dr. Phillip A. Brown of Lansing, Mich, and Armand D. Brown of Crescent City, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Fred C. Brown; a brother, Paul Palmgren; two sisters, Bemadine Palmgren and Helen Behrens; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Kister officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation will begin 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the family present 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 6301 W. St. Joseph Highway, Lansing, Mich. 48917 or donor’s choice.
