Faye was the widow of Thomas Perrin Kennedy (1916 - 2004). She was born on the family farm near Senath, Dunklin County, MO, the 5th of 6, and the only surviving, child of Charles Edgar and Willie Irene (Segler) Hamlin. She received her RN from Methodist Hospital, Memphis, TN, in 1942 and, thereafter, served in WWII as a Navy WAVE. While stationed at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA, she met her future husband, Tom, a Naval aviator and one of the few survivors of the November 1943 torpedoing of the Liscome Bay escort carrier near Makin Island in the Pacific. They were married by proxy in April 1944. At the time, she was in CA and he was in FL. They sealed the deal in June, upon her arrival in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In 1945, they migrated to CA where they remained for 49 years, she as a homemaker and later as a cardiac ICU nurse and he as a commercial photographer in the East Bay of northern California. In 1994, they retired to SC, choosing the town of Seneca in the upstate's finger lakes region. (Tom was a native of Union, SC, where his ancestors settled in the 1750s and where family still resides.) Faye was an avid and accomplished gardener, knitter, seamstress. She loved challenging word games and complex puzzles. Over the years, she was an active church member, serving in various women's groups. In recent years, she was a member of the Seneca post of the American Legion, being its eldest member. In 2010, she participated in an Honor Flight from Greenville to Washington, DC and was the only woman among 80+ veterans. She is survived by: her daughter, Diana Light (Elliot) in CA; son, Jeffrey Parker Kennedy (Miriam) in IL; nephew, Bud Hamlin (Shelby) in NC; niece, Jerris O'Malley (Joe) in FL; grand daughter, Katie Light Soloway (Ben) in MA; grandson Will in SE Asia; three great grandchildren, Simon, Ella and Nessa Soloway; and other extended family in SC, NC, GA, VA and FL.
