Faye Geisler, daughter of John and Anna Grammer Geisler, was born November 30, 1925 on her grandparent's homestead south of Pleasanton. Faye attended high school in Pleasanton when war was declared in... Read More	Faye Wendt, 86, of Hazard died Friday, August 3, 2012 at Homestead Assisted Living in Kearney, Nebraska. Faye Geisler, daughter of John and Anna Grammer Geisler, was born November 30, 1925 on her grandparent's homestead south of Pleasanton. She attended school in Pleasanton and District 87, known as the Vest School where she was an eighth grade graduate. Faye credited her eighth grade teacher, Esther Zimmerman, with inspiring her to become a teacher---"because from then on, the only career I thought about was some form of education." Faye attended high school in Pleasanton when war was declared in 1941 and Faye saw many of the young men leaving high school to defend their country. After living through the Depression, Faye and the community were now experiencing the rationing of food and gasoline. She was graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1942 and after attending Teachers College in Kearney for one year, Faye began her teaching career in fall of 1943. Faye rode her pony, Betsy, to District 33, Brock, which was her first teaching job. She then taught grades 4-8 in Pleasanton Public School during the 1944-1945 school year. After her marriage, she taught at Hopewell, Star, Concord, and Wiggle Creek before returning to Pleasanton Public School where she taught the next thirty years. While teaching school and caring for her family, Faye earned her B. A. in Elementary Education in 1965. Faye's love of teaching was evidenced by the number of teachers, patrons, and former students, some third generation, who attended her retirement party in 1991. Faye and her high school sweetheart, Donald Wendt, were married June 16, 1945. After living north of Kearney for several years, Don and Faye moved to Hazard in 1951 where their son, Richard Dean joined their family. Their big two-story house was the scene of many dinners for family and friends as Faye was an excellent cook. A little chat with Faye and a homemade angel food cake could always brighten your day if your family had lost a loved one, there was a new baby in your house, or you had been in the hospital. Faye lost her companion on March 15, 1981 but received caring visits from her devoted son, Dick and wife Diane, and their family. She especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and time spent with her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Her sister, Shirley Chavanu, has been a special blessing to Faye in the last few years. Faye made many trips to Lincoln to visit her brother, Gene, and family. She was able to visit on the phone with him earlier this week. Faye was active in the Hazard St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill Card Club, the Jolly Homemakers, the Laf-a-lot Club in Litchfield, retired teachers and the Hazard Monday Bridge Club. Faye also did craft classes for many years at the Good Samaritan Home in Ravenna. She corresponded with her many friends and relatives, cared for her plants, and enjoyed bird watching. After retirement, Faye wrote and published "My Forty Years and More" about her life and teaching experiences. Survivors include: her son, Dick and Diane of Hazard; granddaughter, Stacy and Jason Young of Sargent; grandsons, Jeff and Dalinda Wendt and Ryan and Jillian Wendt of Pleasanton; brother, Eugene Geisler of Omaha; and sister, Shirley and Don Chavanu of Pleasanton; and great grandchildren, Theo Williams and Jaylin Young of Sargent; Treven, Brecken, Mason and Max Wendt of Pleasanton. Her many nieces and nephews have wonderful memories of their special Aunt who was always present for their memorable occasions. Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents, John and Anna; brother, Francis; great grandsons, Kellen Ryan and Reily John Wendt; and sister-in-law, Lucille Geisler.
