He had been afflicted with a severe illness several weeks and was regarded by his physicians to be in a dangerous condition during the two weeks prior to the death summons. Mr. Cook's death occurred just at the time when he was prepared to enjoy the fruits of his long years of labor. He had retired from business, erected an elegant residence and had just entered upon a pleasant system of home life when he was stricken with the illness which proved fatal. The funeral was conducted at the residence, Thursday afternoon, by Rev. M. L. Alleshouse and Elder D. W. Conner and the remains were interred in the Masonic cemetery. The funeral was very largely attended. The merchants closed their business out of respect to the deceased and his family. Obituary Mr. Fayette Cook, the subject of this sketch, was born in Morrow County, Ohio, July 20, 1829; died September 19, 1900, aged 71 years, 1 month and 29 days. He was married to Miss Mary Cyphers Feb. 24, 1852. To this union six children were born - Samantha Baugher, Miles, Allen, James F., John W. and May B. Gile, all of whom are living except Allen who died four years ago. Brother Cook was converted under the ministry of the Rev. Thos. Jenkins, a Baptist minister in Ohio, in 1858. He never denied his conversion, but always manifested his confidence in the Christ whom he believed and trusted. He expressed himself as being ready to go and said to his family, "Meet me in Heaven." "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from henceforth, Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." May the abiding presence of our Lord and the comforting influence of the Holy Spirit remain with the bereaved family and sustain them in this great trouble. - M. L. A.
