He had three brothers, Herman of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Carl and William of Minneapolis, Minnesota, who immigrated to America before Ferdinand. They were the probable cause of Ferdinand and Wilhelmina coming to this country. Wilhelmina A. Oestreich, nee Ziehlsdorf, was born in Berlin, Germany on March 11, 1859, the oldest child of a large family. Her mother died in 1869 and the family moved to Sjsandan, a small settlement in the vicinity of Berlin. She had the unique experience, at the age of 15, of being employed as a personal attendant to the Empress of Germany. Her duties required her to lay out the empress's attire for each day and dressing her hair for special court occasions. She had the privilege of seeing the Crown Prince William the second, on different occasions. He later became Emperor of Germany during World War I. In September 1880, Ferdinand and Wilhelmina were joined in marriage in Spanden, Germany. The following spring, March 1881, they came to America. Their first years were spent in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, later moving to Hutchinson, Minnesota, where they lived for four years. From there they moved to Arlington, Minnesota. They stayed there until 1910, when they came to Hannover, North Dakota where they farmed for twelve years. In 1922, he and his wife retired from the farm, moving to the New Salem community where they spent their remaining days. In September 1930, they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Mr. Oestreich died January 29, 1938, at the age of 81 years eight months and 17 days, of a paralytic stroke at his home. Mrs. Oestreich died of a stroke at her home July 23, 1943, at the age of 84 years, four months and 12 days. They are both buried in the Hannover Cemetery, St. Peters' Lutheran Church, Hannover, North Dakota. Eleven children were born to this marriage. Three children died in their infancy. Other family members were: August (married Amelia Albers), Helen (married T.A. Letzring), Herman (married Rose Eisenbraun), Paul (married Pansy Middlesteader), Sophia (married Henry Wilkens), Ferdinand (married Olga Lehde), Louise (married Arvid "Swede" Nelson), and Robert (married Faye Middlesteader). At this time, Robert is the only living member.
