Description	:	The McKean family moved from Bruce, Wisconsin to the Dickson area in Alberta in 1910, settling on the NE quarter of section 22-35-3W5. Fergus McKean travelled by immigrant rail car with their settlers effects, and Addie and their daughter, Clarice, came by separate coach. Fergus McKean had a Bachelor of Science degree, and was a Doctor of Law. He was very community-minded and intensely interested in the U.F.A. movement and the co-operative farmers unions. He served as secretary for the Dickson Drainage District No. 1 and represented Dickson as a charter member of the Mountain View Cooperative Livestock Association, helping all with his time and abilities. The McKeans were also instrumental in the formation of the Red River Mission held in the old Red Raven school. At his death in 1932, his funeral was the largest held at the Bethany Lutheran Church at Dickson, with people overflowing across the road and up the school steps, showing the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him.
