Description	:	Fern McPartland, 86, Groton, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, in a care center at Groton. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church at Conde with the Rev. William Osborn officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery at Conde. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Thelen Funeral Home at Redfield and will continue at 6 p.m. with a rosary and Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. in the church at Conde. She was born Aug. 24, 1924, to Amy and Celia (Poirier) Fortin and grew up with her parents and five sisters on the family farm near Turton. Following graduation from Clark High School, she worked in Minneapolis as a secretary. Oct. 14, 1947, she married Florian "Mac" McPartland in St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Turton. They farmed near Turton for a short time before moving to a farm east of Conde in 1953, where they farmed and raised five children. She and her husband moved into Conde in 1990. She continued to live in Conde following her husband's death in 1995. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, the outdoors, gardening, planting trees, taking care of her yard, fishing, spending time at the cabin on Big Stone and sports, especially the Twins, the Vikings and the Duke Blue Devils. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon (Dick) Prien of Chugiak, Alaska; four sons, Rick (Margaret) McPartland of Aberdeen, Grant (Annie) McPartland of Sioux Falls, Jerry (Deb) McPartland of Castlewood and Norb (Janet) McPartland of Bradley; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
