Immediate surviving family members are: 1) Her Sister, Bonnie Ann (Herman) Rivera of Wichita Falls, TX 2) Her two Sons - Danial Lew Dunham of San Clemente, CA – Jackie Lee Dunham of Mission Vjejo, CA 3) Her Daughter-In-Law, Vonneta Elaine (Egan) Dunham of Mission Vjejo, CA, and 4) Her Sister-in-Law, Barbara Jean (Gullett) Dunham of Ottumwa, IA Fern grew up in the small rural community of Abilene, KS and in her youth, seldom ventured far from her birthplace. She graduated from High School in 1939 and was the only member of her family to do so. Soon afterwards, she met and married her husband Jack - a career Army Officer, who traveled extensively on assignments throughout the U.S. (Missouri/Texas/South Dakota, and to distant locations in Europe and the South Pacific. Her far away homes away from home included Trieste, Italy (1944-47), Okinawa (1951-52), Manheim and Darmstadt, Germany (1954-57). Fern Dunham was a dedicated Wife, Mother, Homemaker, an excellent Seamstress, and had two careers outside the home as a Fingerprint Analyst for the Police Department in Wichita, KA, and with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation in Topeka, KS. She authored the first official manual for collecting, documenting, storing and retrieving “Fingerprints” for use by law enforcement officials throughout the state of Kansas. She retired in 1977 and relocated from her home in Topeka, Kansas to southern California in 1998 to be near her two sons, Dan and Jack. Fern was pre-deceased by her Father, Fred Herman, her Mother Edna Violet (Farris) Herman, and her two brothers, Dean Harris Herman and Rollie Foster Herman; her first husband, Jack William Dunham, and her second husband, Harry Koelling. She is survived by three Grandchildren: Hans Michael Dunham, Kristin Lee Dunham, and Brandon Nicholas Dunham; two Great Grandchildren, Parker McKay Dunham and Payton Elise Dunham; and by 8 nieces and 10 nephews. A graveside burial will be held at the Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa at 1339 Blue Grass Road on Thursday, October 2, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. The Family welcomes those who knew and loved her as we did...to bid her farewell!
