Erickson Dec 31 1920 - Mar 03 2006 Fern I. Erickson, 85, of Sioux Falls, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at Sioux Valley Hospital. Fern Ione Nessan was born December 31, 1920 in Morefield, SD to Oscar & Anne Nessan. In 1924, she moved with her family to Sioux Falls where she attended several grade schools and Washington High School. In March of 1938, she was united in marriage with Wayne Mortenson. The couple had two sons, Gary and Richard. Wayne died on Iwo Jima in 1945. On March 4, 1947,she was united in marriage with Edwin G. Erickson. The couple moved to Deadwood, SD shortly after their marriage. They had one son, David. They returned to Sioux Falls where Fern worked in sales at various retail stores in the city. Her husband preceded her in death on May 10, 1990. Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Gary (Diana) Mortenson of San Diego, CA, Richard (Renee) Mortenson of Sioux Falls, SD and David (Kathy) Erickson, of Sioux Falls; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to both husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; 1 infant daughter, Charlotte Ann Mortenson, 2 brothers, Willard and Jasper Nessan; and 4 sisters, Otella Nessan, Myrtle Hinsvark, Gladys Nessan and Sylvia Strand. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at Christ The Victor Chapel of First Lutheran Church. Private graveside services will be held. The family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location. Miller Funeral Home 507 S.
