Description	:	FERN O MCFARLAND Fem O. McFarlnd, 81, of 1405 West Highway 34, Grand Island died Friday, July 5, 1996 at the Lakeview Nursing Center of Grand Island. Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 15, 1996 at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Sargent with Reverend Murry Johnston officiating. There was no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude*s Hospital for Children Heart Fund or American Cancer Research. Fern O. McFarland was bom on October 1, 1914 to George and Iona (Arnold) Gardner at Scotia. Mrs. McFarland grew up and was educated at Sargent after her graduation from Sargent High School. She furthered her education at the School of Cosmology at Lincoln. She was united in marriage to A.E. McFarland on August 8, 1946 at Wickenburg, AZ after which the couple made their home in Phoenix, AZ. In 1957 she moved to Grand Island where she was a waitress for the 1-80 Holiday Inn and later worked for Butterkruat Bakery for 10 years and Stolle Bakery for 10 years. She retired in 1985. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the R.S.V.P. (Senior Citizen Organization). Survivors include one brother, Ira R. Gardner, Broken Bow and one sister, Thelma Axtell, Ralston. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and a sister. Thursday, July 18, 1996 - Sargent Leader - Page 3
