Fern Opal Just was born September 19, 1934, in New Salem, the daughter of K. Otto and Hattie (Walde) Just. She grew up and attended school in New Salem; graduating from New Salem High School. Read More	A funeral service for Fern Opp, Dickinson, formerly of New Salem, will be 2:00 p.m. CT, Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Peace Church. Fern passed away March 22, 2018 at St. Luke’s Home. Fern Opal Just was born September 19, 1934, in New Salem, the daughter of K. Otto and Hattie (Walde) Just. She grew up and attended school in New Salem; graduating from New Salem High School. She went one year to Valley City Teachers College, after which she taught 3 years in the New Salem Moltzen School District. During the summer months she attended Minot State College. Later she also taught in Beach and Mandan. While still teaching, Fern met Allen Opp at a dance in New Salem. The couple was married on December 23, 1957 at Peace Church, New Salem, in a double wedding with her sister, Jane, and her husband, Jerry Ramstad. Fern and Allen were blessed with two daughters, Jamie and Janet. Together, the couple took over the Just Family Homestead where they worked side by side farming and raising registered Angus cattle. Fern was a hard worker and always knew how to run every piece of farm equipment. The couple retired from farming in 1988 and built a new home in New Salem. Fern enjoyed taking care of her yard, playing pinochle, and traveling the country with Allen in their camper. She was known for her infectious laugh. Family was everything to Fern and she was extremely proud to become a grandmother and then a great-grandmother. Fern is survived by her husband, Allen, Dickinson; daughters, Jamie (Richard) Fast, New Salem, and Janet (L.J) Dohrmann, Taylor; grandchildren, Rachel (Jeremy) Strommen, New Salem, Jenna (Brent) Mrnak, Bowman, and Jeri (Troy) Carter, Rock Lake; great-grandchildren; Layton, Harlee, Bennett, Ellis, Vance, Coy, and Rowdy; and sister, Jane (Jerome) Ramstad, Cannon Falls, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, K. Otto and Hattie Just.
