Ouellette, 83, of Waterville died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Lakewood Continuing Care Center after a long struggle with cancer. Fernand was born on April 21, 1921, in Fairfield Center, a son of Benjamin and Louise (Cyr) Ouellette. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Waterville High School. Fern was an avid bowler and was city champion five years in a row, and Eastern Maine champion for three years in a row. He will be remembered as a "hard working man" who kept himself busy and was always ready to help anyone who needed a hand. He loved being outdoors and playing golf with his brothers. After retirement from Keyes Fiber, he did landscaping for Notre Dame Federal Credit Union. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, and playing cards. Fernand is survived by his wife of 47 years, Yvette (Vachon) Ouellette of Waterville; his daughter, Shirley Ouellette and her companion, Malton Dorr, of Levant; his stepson, Gary Cote and his fiancee, Judy Parker, of Fairfield Center; his stepdaughter, Marjory Towers and her husband, Hollis, of Waterville; his brother, Romeo Ouelette of Waterville; his sister, Irene Huard and her husband, Omer, of Winslow; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; daughters Patricia Sherman and Mary Ouellette; brothers Leon, Lewis and Arthur Ouellette; and sisters Yvonne Pouliot, Bernadette Monk, Jeannette Rosenberg and Alphonsine Blais. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm St., Waterville 04901. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Waterville, with burial following in St. Francis Cemetery. (Morning Sentinel 12/26/2004)
