Read More	Ferne M. Berg, 81, Grand Forks, ND died Sunday, August 10, 2014 in Vibra Hospital of Fargo, ND. Ferne M. Hultgen was born May 2, 1933 on a farm 7 miles east of Kennedy, MN. She graduated from High School at Kennedy and then moved to Grand Forks where she graduated from Aaker’s Business College. It was there she met Merland “Red” Berg, one of her instructors. After several failed attempts, she finally agreed to go out with him. They were married on September 5, 1952 in Kennedy, MN and spent the next 62 years together before her beloved Red recently passed away. They were blessed with three beautiful children, Patti, Jerry and Greg. Ferne was a secretary for six years at Roosevelt School in Grand Forks. She later was employed at Red River National Bank which later became First Bank. Ferne retired from the bank in 1988 after 20 years of employment. Ferne was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In 2009, she received the unit Member of The Year Award and in 2010, received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Ferne was also in the Homemakers Club. She was a lifetime member of Calvary Lutheran Church where she participated in the church circle and a weekly coffee group. Ferne also enjoyed spending time with her family , especially with her grandchildren at the lake and during holidays, spoiling them with treats and goodies. Ferne is survived by her daughter, Patti (David) Wicklein, Plymouth, MN; sons, Jerry (Rebecca) of Arlington, MN, and Gregory (Teresa) of Grand Forks; Grandchildren, Alexandra Abbenhaus, Christopher, Jordan, Ian and Caitlin Berg; sister, LeeVila Wallsten, Apple Valley, MN; and a brother, Dale (Ettie) Hultgren, Kennedy, MN. Ferne was preceded in death by her husband, Merland “Red” Berg and a sister, Adele Hultgren. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 16, 2014 in Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks.
