Read More	=================================== Kingman Star Kingman, Indiana edition unknown Roscoe Flayde Parent, son of John and Sibyl Mendenhall Parent, was born in Tangier, April 15, 1888 and died March 11, 1942 in Tangier where he had spent his entire life of 53 years, 10 months and 26 days., excepting 10 years in Findley, Ill. Flayde attended the public schools and as a boy and took an active interest in the affairs of the community, but his school and carefree days were cut short by the death of his father when he was 18 years old and being the eldest of seven brothers he assumed responsibility and work too heavy for his young shoulders but his desire was to help his beloved mother and younger brothers and this he always did. When the United States entered the first World War he, being the grand-son of a gallant civil war soldier, enlisted to fight for his country and served 23 months, 19 of them being overseas, until he was honorably discharged at the close of the war. He did not often talk of his war experience, but in expressing joy at being back home, said when his regiment landed in London the band was playing "Back Home Again in Indiana" and also that when they marched into Brest, France, his strength almost failed as it was the longest hill he ever climbed. He was married, April 19, 1924 to Miss Madge Harvey, the faithful sweetheart of his home town and they were the parents of three children. As Flayde had well known the sorrows of being fatherless, he tried to give to his own children extra love and care and the kindness he had always shown his brothers extended to his own family. He had a deep understanding of human nature, and love of God and a belief in the great brotherhood of man. During the years he lived in Findley he had an excellent position with the railroad but his health failing, he came back to the home of his childhood and old-time friends and engaged in tasks his strength would permit. On the night of March 10, he went to earthly sleep to end in sleep eternal. He leaves to sorrow his wife, Madge, daughter Beverly, sons John and Joe; 3 brothers, Ralph of Anderson, Ronald of Greencastle and Reed of Columbus, Ohio; two nieces, one nephew, other relatives and many friends. Sadly will he be missed in the home and community. But to "live in hearts we leave behind is not to die". ===================================
