Description	:	Flora Bell Merrick, 89, formerly of 315 S. Jay, Aberdeen, died Friday, Dec. 2, at the Presbyterian Manor Home at Wichita, Kan. The funeral service was held at 3:30 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 5, at Miller-Huebl Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gerald A. Rife, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Groton Union Cemetery. Jay, Aberdeen, died Friday, Dec. 2, at the Presbyterian Manor Home at Wichita, Kan. The funeral service was held at 3:30 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 5, at Miller-Huebl Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gerald A. Rife, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Groton Union Cemetery. Flora Bell, the daughter of Angus D. and Fannie Cross Bell, was born in Spink County on August 10, 1894. When she was a year old, her father died, and she and her mother moved with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Bell, to Aberdeen. She graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen and attended Northern Normal. She married J. Claude Merrick on November 26, 1914. They lived in Webster and in Sioux Falls for a few years, and then, returned to Aberdeen, and she continued to live in Aberdeen until 1978 when she moved to Wichita, Kan. She was employed with the South Dakota Employment Security Department for 28 years until she retired in 1964. Mrs. Merrick was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the United Presbyterian Women, a 50 year lifetime member of the Minerva Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Aberdeen Business and Professional Women, A Charter Member of the Amphictyon Club. She is survived by one son, Jack C. Merrick, Salinas, Calif., one daughter, Mrs. M.J. "Jack" Robershotte, Wichita, Kan.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a nephew, Robert L. Jensen, Groton. She was preceded in death by her parents, one half sister and one half brother.
