Description	:	"The community was deeply saddened last Friday to learn that Mrs. John Hoyt [Flora Phillips Hoyt] while in a fit of temporary insanity, had taken her own life. Mrs. Hoyt had been in poor health for some time and for a week or more had been greatly depressed and slightly deranged. She was very closely watched but Friday managed to slip away from her mother, who was alone with her. J. E. Dwinell, hearing Mrs. Phillips' cries for help, came at once to her assistance. Mr. Hoyt was in Greensboro and was hastily summoned. Mrs. Hoyt was a tender, loving wife and mother, a lady of most amiable character whose unselfishness endeared her to everyone. She had been organist at the Cong'l and M. E. churches for much of the time since the family moved back here from Troy a few years ago. She was always pleasant and ready to do her part in everything. Mrs. Hoyt leaves a husband, an aged mother and three daughters, Mrs. Mark Johnson of Barton, Mrs. Helen Royston of Greensboro, and Miss Julia, who lives at home. She was a sister of C. S. Phillips of this place. Our sincere and hearty sympathy is extended to this bereaved family. The funeral was held at the house yesterday, Revs. George McDonald, John McDonald and E. L. Alexander officiating. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The house was crowded and many sat in the front yard. Among those present from out of town were Mr. E. A. Townsend, Manchester, N. H.; Mr. A. H. Hoyt and daughter, Westfield; Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Mann, Troy; Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hutchins, Newport; Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Cuthbertson, Greensboro, Mr. and Mrs. M. Root, Craftsbury; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Root, Craftsbury, and quite a number from Barton." (Orleans County Monitor, 8/19/1901)
