Mrs. Brown was born in North, a daughter of the late Rev. Dr. James F.M. Hoffmeyer and Lois Folk Hoffmeyer. She was a 1958 graduate of Lander College, with a bachelor's degree in home economics. Mrs. Brown was a member of Willow Swamp Baptist Church, former member of church choir, former director of the Bible School and a director of the WMU for many years. Survivors include her husband, John Edward Brown of the home; daughter, Lois Ann Porter and husband, James of Norway; sons, James Norris Brown and wife, Patricia of Norway, John Henry Brown and wife, Sheryl of Orangeburg, and Gerald Edward Brown and wife, Nancy of Norway; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. At other times, friends may call at the residence and at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Willow Swamp Baptist Church, P.O. Box 444, Norway, SC 29112 or Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 1123, Bamberg, SC 29003.
