Flora Nelson was born on a farm four miles southwest of Lennox, SD., on Feb. 12, 1904, the daughter of Conrad K. and Maggie (Poll) Smith. She attended rural school and grew up there. On Feb. 14, 1923,she was united in marriage to Arthur B. Nelson at Turner County First Presbyterian Church, rural Davis. Following their marriage they farmed in the Lennox area and move into Lennox in 1979. Her husband preceded her in death on May 23, 1983, which ended a marriage of over 60 years. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Arthur John, on Oct. 28, 1926; three brothers: Hartley Smith in 1919, Melvin Smith on Feb. 26, 1990,and John Smith, who died Monday, Jul. 11, 1994; and her sister Corene Van Bockern, who died Sep. 9, 1993. Survivors include her brother, Lawrence Smith, North Hollywood, CA.; one sister-in-law, Marie Nelson, Lennox; a very special friend, Mildred Reynolds, Lennox; her nieces and nephews: Russell A. Smith of Smith City, Mrs. Donald (Annabeth) Arne of Carpenter, Mrs. Earl (Rebecca) Girton and Mrs. Leonard (Carla) Rhoades, both of Sioux Falls; Donald Nelson and Audrey Abbott, both of Sioux Falls, Verna Beninga, Orlin Gedstad and Bernice Buse, all of Lennox, David Nelson of Oregon, and Ruth Ann Richards of CA.; surviving spouses of nieces and nephews: Elaine Cleveland of Prescott, WI.; Delores Cleveland of Sioux Falls, Verna Gedstad of Canton, Roy Sherman and Bill Jacobs, both of Worthing; step-niece and step-nephews; Erma Bonfonte of CA., Oliver Niebruegge of WI., and Marvin Niebruegge of WA.
