Description	:	Florence Anita Eckel, oldest daughter of Mary Elma (Smith) and Richard Eckel, was born on a farm near Hancock, Iowa on November 6, 1901. She died June 22, 1955 at the Myrtue Memorial hospital in Harlan where she was confined the past nine months following several years of illness. Her age was 53 years, 7 months and 16 days. Read More	Florence Anita Eckel, oldest daughter of Mary Elma (Smith) and Richard Eckel, was born on a farm near Hancock, Iowa on November 6, 1901. She died June 22, 1955 at the Myrtue Memorial hospital in Harlan where she was confined the past nine months following several years of illness. Her age was 53 years, 7 months and 16 days. In early childhood, she moved with her parents to the Eckel farm home southwest of Shelby, where she and her four brothers and two sisters were reared. She joined the Methodist church as a child and until her last illness was a faithful worker in the church. Following her graduation from Shelby high school, she attended Iowa State college at Ames and was graduated with a degree in Home Economics. It was during her teaching career in Montana that she met Lloyd Walters of Bridger, Mont., whom she married June 7, 1933. They made their home in Bridger and later moved to Frannie, Wyo. Two children were born to their union, a son Gilbet, who is now a student pastor at Palmyra, Nebraska while taking a seminary course at Nebraska. Wesleyan college at Lincoln and a daughter, Lois now a sophomore in high school at Bridger. It was during the last months of her life that MrS Walters revealed the courage with which one could endure the suffering of a fatal illness. She continued to make her life useful by making fancywork for friends, scrapbooks for children, planning the menus at the hospital. Her experience as a dietitian aided her in this accomplishments. She clung to life tenaciously by her activities until her death relieved her to her efforts. Besides her husband, Lloyd, of Bridger, Mont. and the two children, she is survived by her mother, Mrs Elma Eckel, two sisters, Mrs Edna May and Mrs Clarence McKnabb and two brothers, Stanley and Dewight Eckel, all at Shelby and a brother, Clyde at Herman, Nebraska. Her father and a brother, Thornton, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at the Shelby Methodist church Saturday afternoon, June 25 with the Rev. Lawrence Beals, pastor of the Harlan Methodist church and the Rev. W.P. Gauer of Shelby officiating. Pauley's funeral home was in charge. Pallbearers were Clyde, Stanley, and Dewight Eckel, her brothers, and Clarence McKnabb, Stanley Reynolds and Clarence Cushing. Burial was in the Shelby cemetery.
