Lectors will be Mike Rotert and Rodney Streff. Florence Bies, daughter of Louise and Mary (Ketelsleger) Bies, was born March 22, 1909 in Salem, SD. She grew up in the Salem area and on February 12, 1929 she married Lawrence Tuschen in Salem,. She lived her entire life in the Salem area where she and her husband farmed. Her husband died in 1985 and she then moved into Salem. She had spent the past two years at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Salem. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Salem, the church Altar Society, of the Christian Mothers, of the National Catholic Society of Foresters for 70 years, and of the Friendly Neighbors Club. Florence died at Colonial Manor on Tuesday, February 11, 1997 having reached the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 19 days. Her faith, her family, and her friends were all very important to her. She and her husband had seven children during their marriage. Survivors include three sons, Larry and wife Sharon, Darrell and wife Carol, and Richard and wife Veronica, all of Salem, SD; four daughters, Betty Streff and Janet Rotert, both of Salem, SD; Mrs. Darrell (Dina) Herbst of Pine Bluff, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Bill (Coleen) Ernster of Parkston, SD; 33 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Don (Chris) Sullivan of Salem, SD; and a brother-in-law, Dale Knox of Canistota, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, and three sisters, Loretta Koob, Ceil Knox, and Leona Bies.
