She attended country school, graduated from Logan High School, received her teaching certification and began teaching country school. On December 20, 1941, Florence married Max Marley. Read More	Florence Dorothy (Hillyer) Marley, 96 June 6, 1920 ~ October 20, 2016 Florence Dorothy (Hillyer) Marley was born on June 6, 1920, to Amos and Evelyn (Dungan) Hillyer near Logan, Iowa. She attended country school, graduated from Logan High School, received her teaching certification and began teaching country school. On December 20, 1941, Florence married Max Marley. They were blessed with five children. The family lived in the Logan area where Florence continued to teach country school for a few years. After she raised their family Florence began baby-sitting, doing housecleaning, bookkeeping for Max and Merrill and was the custodian at Perfection Learning. She then began managing the Logan Meal Site for a number of years. She retired from there at the age of 92. Florence was a member of the Logan United Methodist Church, Eastern Star and was also a 4-H leader. Florence loved her family and cherished spending time with them. In her later years she enjoyed golfing. Florence died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 96 years, four months, and 14 days. Florence was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. Left with memories are her five children: Merrill Marley of Logan, Iowa; Merlene (Robert) Tamney of Evans, Colorado; Evelyn Bucy of Magnolia, Iowa; Susan Marley of Parkville, Missouri; Cheryl Smith of Zanesville, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a few great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lila Pitt of Logan, Iowa and Norma (Kenneth) Archer of Honey Creek, Iowa and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be 3-8 pm Monday, October 24, at Fouts Funeral Home, 501 Normal St., Woodbine, Iowa, with family receiving friends from 5-7 pm. The funeral will be 10:30 am Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the United Methodist Church, 302 East 8th St., Logan, Iowa, with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. There will be a luncheon afterwards at the church. She watch my twin sister and I when we were in kindergarten. We went to school in the afternoon and she would watch us in the morning. We loved it when she baked bread and could she bake. We would get to help her bake the great cinnamon rolls she baked and whatever else she baked. She will truly be missed. The funniest memory is when she was learning to drive. When The funniest memory is when she was learning to drive. When Uncle Max was gone to work she decided to teach herself to drive. So she put my sister and I in the backseat of the car and proceeded to get behind the wheel. I think she thought she had the car in drive but she actually had it in reverse. She stepped on the gas and she drove into a ditch, it was a very small ditch. I can remember that my sister and I were screaming and crying but nobody was hurt. So she said she had to figure out how to get the car out of the ditch before Uncle Max got home and if I remember right she was unable to get it out before he got home.
