Description	:	Florence Eleanor Axlund, age 100, of Wakonda passed away on February 8, 2012 at Wakonda Heritage Manor. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12 with a prayer service beginning at 7:00pm at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Monday February 13, at the United Methodist Church in Wakonda with burial at the Union Cemetery rural Wakonda. She was born December 23, 1911 to Frank and Winifred (Jenness) Rederick at the farm in Wakonda. She attended school and graduated from Wakonda High School in 1930. She married Fred Axlund on March 11, 1936 and they farmed near Irene until they relocated to Wakonda in 1942 where they farmed until retirement. She gave birth to two sons, Irwin in 1943 and Marvin in 1946. She was active in the Wakonda United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and United Methodist Women organizations, The Wakonda Community Club, the Round About Club, Home Extension Club and was a volunteer at the Wakonda Heritage Manor nursing home, where she had been a resident for the past several years. She is survived by her daughter in law, Dianne Axlund of Mitchell, three granddaughters, Brenda Canfield and Lois (Todd) Yttreness both of Sioux Falls, and Helen (Michael) Paus of Lincoln, Nebraska, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, two sons; Irwin and Marvin, brother Kenneth, and sister Violet. For obituary and online condolences visit hansenfuneralhome.com
