Stratton, and burial was in the Reading cemetery. Mrs. Stratton's death at her home in Topeka Wednesday, October 8, brought to a close one generation of a family long connected with Reading and Lyon county. Mrs. Stratton was the youngest and only child born in America of the Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Lidzy. The Rev. Mr. Lidzy an early day Methodist preacher, held pastorates in Little River, Toledo, Plymouth, Saffordville, Cottonwood Falls, Hartford, Marion, Walnut, Erie, Fredonia, Grace church in Emporia. He died at Lebo in 1903 while pastor in that town. Mr. and Mrs. Lidzy had come to the United States from England in 1861. Mrs. Stratton was born in Chicago, and came to Kansas in 1866 or 1867, and first settled on a farm which adjoins Lake Shawnee in Shawnee county. The family moved to Rice county in the 1870's. Her marriage to Albert J. Stratton of Reading, took place in 1894. Mr. Stratton had first settled in Reading in 1879 and operated a drug store there from 1885 to 1939. He had served as mayor, school board member and postmaster. He was one of the founders and charter members of the Reading Methodist church chartered in 1882. Albert Stratton was a son of Martin W. Stratton. It was in 1879 that Martin W. Stratton and his brother Joel A. Stratton, a captain in the Civil war and one time members of the Massachusetts legislature came to Reading with their families. They started a general store in Reading in 1879 having continued a partnership originated in Massachusetts. A subdivision, Stratton Brothers addition, in Reading, was plotted by them. About 1896 the Albert Strattons moved to their home in the east part of town which Mrs. Stratton continued to occupy for over 50 years. The house recently was sold to Ben Price. Mrs. Stratton was interested in the activities of Reading. She served for over 25 years as secretary of the church Aid society. For years Albert Stratton was superintendent of the Methodist Sunday school and Mrs. Stratton was a teacher.
