The family of six girls and one boy came from England in 1883, having been converted to the Latter Day Saint church by Mormon missionaries in England. They settled in Beaver, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Amos Chase contacted the family and Florence came to Lamoni for the conference in 1898. Here she met Charles France. After a courtship of two years, they were married in Utah on Oct. 8, 1900. Florence passed away at the home of her son Charles in St. Joseph, Mo., April 25, 1963. She leaves to mourn one daughter, Helene Lewis of Funchal, Madeira; two sons, Charles of St. Joseph, Mo., and Roy of Davis City, Iowa; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of friends. The Frances spent most of their lives in Lamoni. During their early married lives, they were active in church work and community life. Throughout their lives they were interested in community affairs. The funeral was held April 27, 1963, at the Lamoni RLDS church with burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Richardson Same issue of The Lamoni Chronicle, but previous page (pg5) Although Mrs. Charles France had not resided among us for several years, she had not been forgotten and her death, occurring at her son Chuck's home in St. Joseph on Thursday, April 25, is regretted by many. Deepest sympathy is extended the two sons, Chuck and Roy of St. Joseph, and the daughter Helene, who is abroad. Mr. and Mrs. France lived in Blythedale several years, residing there at the time of his death, which occurred in 1952. They were dearly loved by all who knew them and it was with regret they could not induce Mother France to remain among them. For the past several years she had resided in a home in Independence where many old friends of Lamoni spent their declining years. She had gone to the home of her son for a few days' visit and was seemingly in her usual health when the end came suddenly. The body was brought to the old home town of Lamoni, where final rites were conducted from the RLDS church on Saturday at 2 p.m. under the direction of the Slade Funeral home of Leon, Iowa, with Elder David France officiating. Glenn Bixby, with Mrs. Edgar Hines at the organ, sang "In the Garden" and "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth." Those acting as casketbearers were Ray Crouse of Leon, Iowa and boyhood friends of the sons, Ralph Derry, James K. Smith, Arthur Derry and Max Hammer, also Truman White, a close friend of Blythedale, laying her by the companion in Rose Hill cemetery. Mother France was born Sept. 22, 1869, in Lancashire county, England, and came to Lamoni when a young girl, uniting in marriage with a young man of Lamoni, where the greater part of their married life was spent. She would have soon reached her 94th birthday, but in spite of her advanced age she retained a great interest in all about her, and she will be missed sadly.
