Born April 22, 1911 in Barnesville, Montgomery County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur West and Gracie Carmen Magaha Matthews. She was the wife of the late Joseph H. Zimmerman, Sr. She is survived by the following children: Daughters: F. Rebecca Etzler Hess (Thomas) Grace V. Weant (Carl), Taneytown, MD and Kenneth L. Zimmerman (Shirley), Feagaville, MD; grandchildren, Martha Fogle (Richard), Mark Etzler, Keith Etzler (Anna), Steven Etzler and wife, Stacey Winpigler (Richard), Todd Weant (Joanne), Kevin Zimmerman, and Laurie Savage (Kevin), 11 great-grandchildren, and 5 great, great grandchildren. She is the last of her immediate family. She was predeceased by the following: son, Joseph H. Zimmerman, Jr.; brothers: Russell, Arthur Walton, Raymond, and John Mathews; and sisters: Goldie Heflin, Dorothy Putman, Edna Mathews and Anna Bussard Kingree. She was a 1929 graduate of Poolesville High School. She and her husband married December 24, 1930. They were dairy farmers until his death in October, 1977. She resided in the same farmhouse since 1930. During her lifetime she had been employed in Frederick at Price Electric, Bon Ton, McCrory's, Bartgis and Zimmerman. She enjoyed bus trips and was a lifelong baseball fan. Her home was always open to family and friends. She was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Feagaville, serving as a Council Member, Sunday School Superintendent, Adult SS Teacher/Helper, member of Lutheran Church Women and Ladies Aid. She attended the Feagaville Seniors and Grange. The family of Florence will meet with family and friends on Sunday evening, March 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Mt. Phillip and Mt. Zion Roads, Feagaville. Pastor Kenneth Gill will have the service. Pallbearers will be Grandsons Mark Etzler, Keith Etzler, Steven Etzler, Todd Weant, Kevin Zimmerman and Great Grandsons Dale Fogle and Jesse Fogle. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery, c/o Darryl Stup, 195 Upper College Terrace, Frederick, MD 21701.
