Nov. 21 (U.P.)--Heroic but unsuccessful attempts to save her two small girls from a flaming ranch-house today proved fatal to Mrs. Lloyd G. Gore, 26, wife of a well known Fergus county rancher. Mrs. Gore died early this morining in a local hospital of severe burns received when she rushed into the burning family home 10 miles north of here early Tuesday, rescued her unconscious husband, but was unable to reach Jacqueline, 6, and Geraldine, 4. Hospital attendants said the 31-year-old father was in "poor" condition and expressed fear that he would not survive. Gore, with his clothing nearly burned off and his badly seared flesh exposed to sub-zero weather, struggled a half-mile through deep snow for help after he rescued one of his children and was overcome in an attempt to save the others. He had carried 1-year-old Michael to safety and was attempting to reach his two daughters when he was overcome by smoke and flames. Mrs. Gore went into the flames and dragged him to safety, but flames, which had made the house a roaring inferno, prevented her from returning to get the other children. A neighbor put the three on a mattress in the back of a truck and brought them here. The third child suffered only from the effects of smoke, hospital attendants said. County Corner Ray Eck said the fire started when a wood stove exploded while the family was asleep. He said the two small children were burned almost beyond recognition. Mrs. Lloyd Gore, 26, suffered fatal burns while aiding her husband in an unsuccessful attempt to reach their trapped daughters--Jacqueline, 6, and Geraldine, 4. Meanwhile, Gore continued his slow recovery from severe burns at a local hospital. Michael Wayne Gore, 1-year-old, was the only member to survive the blaze unharmed. He was rescued by his father.
