Florence was employed at the telephone office in Charles City until Virgil came back from WWII. She was united in marriage to Virgil Mettner on February 11, 1946 at Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City. They farmed near Lawler from 1952 until retiring and moving to New Hampton in 1986. Florence was a member of the Harold Redman American Legion Post 279 Auxiliary of Lawler, Holy Family Parish – St. Joseph's Center and Red Hat Club. Florence is survived by seven children; David Mettner of Colorado Springs, CO; Linda Mettner of Muscatine, IA, Mark Mettner of Hayward, CA, Marcia Pope of Banks, OR, James (Debra) Mettner of New Hampton, IA, Gerald Mettner of Duluth, MN and Janet Theilen of Nashua, IA; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law Velma TeKippe of New Hampton.
