He died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at his farm. --- Florian William Dittrich was born on a farm south of Meadow Grove to Rudolf and Emma (Hoefer) Dittrich on Sept. 5, 1923. He attended elementary school at Elgin and District 50 of Madison County, graduating in 1937. As a young man, Florian moved to San Diego where he worked at an aircraft plant. Soon after, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps and served in Europe for the duration of World War II. Upon returning from the war, Florian began farming south of Meadow Grove. He also worked with his brother, Raymond, in Humboldt, Iowa, where he met and married his wife, Pat Clay. They returned to the Tilden area in 1950 to farm until they moved to Quincy, Wash., in 1956. Florian and Pat returned to southwest Tilden in 1959 to continue farming. They had five children: Cecile, Ron, Mary, Carol and Ken. When Florian wasn’t busy farming or tending to livestock, he enjoyed spending time with family, hunting and playing cards. He was a life member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Florian is survived by his brothers, Jerome (Kay) and Rudy (Elaine) Dittrich of Tilden; many nieces and nephews; his children, Cecile (Gary) Karabel and Ron Dittrich of Tilden, Mary Dittrich of Neligh, Carol Manganaro of Laurel, Ken Dittrich of Tilden; grandchildren Patti Karabel of Adams, Jodi (Ryan) Hague of Elkhorn, Nick (Katie) Manganaro of Omaha, Marc (Brittany) Manganaro of Omaha and Casey (Kerri) Dittrich of Omaha; great-grandchildren Emma and Mattox Hague, Cruz Manganaro and Ryder Dittrich. Florian was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his brothers, Raymond, Paul, Emil, Marcellus and Hubert; his sisters, Tillie Hoersch and Emmie Bjornson.
