She was born April 3, 1894, at Graysville, Ind., a daughter of James Sherman Kennedy and Mary Ellen Kinman Kennedy. When 21 years of age, Florida moved to Broadus, Mont., with her family. She was born April 3, 1894, at Graysville, Ind., a daughter of James Sherman Kennedy and Mary Ellen Kinman Kennedy. When 21 years of age, Florida moved to Broadus, Mont., with her family. She had previously been a telephone operator. At Broadus, she accepted a teaching position in a rural school. During this time she met and married Earl L. "Doc" Linville. They homesteaded between the Big and Little Powder Rivers east of Broadus. On that ranch, they gently and lovingly reared their six children. Florida returned to teaching when her first two children were toddlers. She then held a position in the office of the treasurer of Powder River County. Florida met her life experiences with energy and enthusiasm, particularly her marriage and children. She cherished her friends. Among the activities she enjoyed were gardening, cooking, entertaining, reading, music, traveling, dancing and the card game '500'. In her youth, she was organist at her Methodist church. She esteemed education and maintained her interest in government and politics throughout her long life. With delight, she often served as an election judge in Powder River County. A true pioneer woman, Florida left a comfortable Midwest life to reside in southeastern Montana without electricity, telephones and other amenities. Despite some disagreeable aspects of her new home, she quickly grew to love Montana. Florida's husband passed on in 1959. She and her son, Edwin L. 'Bud' Linville, continued ranching until 1987 when he passed on. At that time she moved to the Laurel-Billings area to reside with her daughters. Besides her husband and son, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Survivors are daughters, Helen L. Irion of Olive, Virginia Hyde, Floreine Huckins and Dona Jean Juhl of Billings and Kathleen Day of Laurel. Also surviving are sons-in-law, Alvin J. Irion, F. F. Huckins, Marvin L. Juhl and Louis J. Day; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in the Powder River Congregational Church in Broadus. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery at Broadus." The Billings Gazette, February 12, 1995
