Flossie Gass, daughter of Charles and Jenny (Snell) Fay, was born May 10, 1899 in Clayton County. Iowa. She died Friday morning, Feb. 19, 1988 in the Spencer Municipal Hospital, Spencer, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in the Marion Lutheran church, Gunder. She attended the rural schools of Clayton County and also Pitze's School of Cosmetology at Waterloo. On November 27, 1929 she was married to Herbert Gass. They had 4 children. They lived most of their lives in the Postville and Gunder area. In 1950, they moved to the Clermont area. Herbert died in January, 1955. Flossie was employed as a telephone operator for the Scenic Ridge Telephone Company in Clermont for several years. She moved to the Homestead Apartments in Elgin where she lived from 1982 to 1983. In 1983 she moved to Clermont to live with her daughter, Pat, and in 1987 they moved to Spencer, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 daughters in infancy, her twin sister, Florence Kluss and a sister, Mabel Farmer. Surviving are a son, John and his wife, Vivian, Clermont, and a daughter, Patricia, and her husband, Donald Cowell, Spencer; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. She was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church. Casket bearers were William J. Eno, John P. Eno, James L. Eno, Allen Johnson, Donald Thorson, Henry Follett, and E. W. (Bill) Matthiesen.
