Miller, 74, retired Burlington Railroad employee and resident of Grand Island the past six years, died early this morning in a local hospital. He had been in ill health the past year and hospitalized since February. The family home is at 933 South California. Funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Dr. James Chubb, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church will officiate. Burial is to be in Aurora Cemetery. Floyd Denton Miller was born Jan. 21, 1885, at Great Capacon, W. Va., the son of Hiram and Tena Miller. He began his railroad career at an early age and in 1909, he came to Nebraska and was employed by the Burlington Railroad as operator and station agent. he worked in various communities in Nebraska until his retirement in 1953 when he and Mrs. Miller came to Grand Island to make their home. Mr. Miller had 44 years of service with the Burlington. He and Miss Nellie Smith were married June 14, 1911, at Aurora. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Edward Kavanagh, Fremont; and two grandchildren, Karen and Linda Kavanagh. He was preceded in death by his parents.
