Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Lone Tree with military rites by the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. Casketbearers will be Duane Lewis, Larry Lewis, Richard VeDepo, Jim VeDepo, Mark Gronewold, Randy Gronewold, Dave Potter, Tom Pederson, Mike Myers and Timothy Farnsworth. Honorary Casketbearers will be Lloyd Burr, Jr., Don Hanks, Duane Lorack, Marion Eden, Wendell Eden, Gilbert Stanek, Laurin Stanek, Harold Schuessler, Duane Stock and Raymond Swanson. Following committal services at the cemetery a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation for Floyd will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service and a time of sharing at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Floyd. Sympathy notes may be left for the Hotz family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. Floyd Edwin Hotz was born on November 25, 1928, at the home of Charles and Josephine (Stanek) Hotz. He graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1946 and subsequently attended Iowa State University for the Agricultural Winter Session. He entered the United States Army on August 13, 1951 to serve during the Korean Conflict. While on furlough, he married Elizabeth VeDepo of West Branch on May 14, 1952, the love of his life for over 50 years. Floyd served on the Lone Tree Community School Board from 1966 - 1972 during the passage of the school bond which allowed for construction of the new gym. He also was a member of the Johnson County Pork Board, Johnson County Extension Council, St. Marys Parish Council, Farm Bureau Board, Lone Tree American Legion Post 457, and Chairman of the Fremont Township Mercy Hospital Fundraising Campaign. Floyd was a life-long farmer who worked on his family farm until his death. Floyd embraced farming as more than an occupation, but a life-style. His true love of agriculture was demonstrated by his dedication and excitement for his work. He would talk farming to anyone that would lend a listening ear. Floyd was a dedicated husband and great family man who continually made sacrifices for those close to him. He was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed attending many school and community activities, especially those of his grandchildren. Some of his happiest times were during the holidays or other family gatherings. Throughout his high school and Army years, Floyd loved to participate in all sports. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, traveling, dancing with his wife and socializing with his many friends. He lived a life which overflowed with honesty, integrity, dignity and modesty. Floyd is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife, Elizabeth of Lone Tree; son, Thomas Charles and wife, Jane of Lone Tree; daughter, Terri Lynn Sheetz of Iowa City; grandchildren, Arin of Washington D.C. and Michael Hotz, currently attending Iowa State University in Ames. Also sister, RoseMary Lewis; brother-in-law, Leonard VeDepo; sister-in-law, Marilyn Jennings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Pamela Sue Hotz; brothers-in-law, Edgar Lewis, Raymond VeDepo, LuVerne VeDepo, William VeDepo, and Bob Jennings; and sisters-in-law, Beatrice Meade and Gladys VeDepo.
