Description	:	Floyd was born Jan. 5, 1926, in Pomeroy, to Lawrence J. Geiger and Belinda L. (Robertson) Geiger. He grew up in Pomeroy on the family farm and played football for the Pomeroy Pirates during his high school years, graduating from Pomeroy High School in 1943. (Robertson) Geiger. He grew up in Pomeroy on the family farm and played football for the Pomeroy Pirates during his high school years, graduating from Pomeroy High School in 1943. He had been to many class reunions over the years and especially enjoyed the Pataha Flour Mill, where he would drive a wagon in his youth from the farm to the mill to exchange wheat for flour. Floyd met Shirley Jane Baird from Illinois and they were married Jan. 10, 1949, in Pomeroy. Soon after the wedding, they left Pomeroy and began a life in the U.S. Air Force that would span almost 30 years. Their first son, Paul, was born in Waco, Texas, in 1949. Floyd fought in the Korean War, flying B-29 bombers. They had a daughter, Karen, in 1955 in Roswell, N.M., and continued to move around the country: New Hampshire; Fort Worth, Texas; Merced, Calif.; and back to Texas, where their son, Keith, was born in El Paso in 1960. Then the family moved to California and Alabama, where their son, Scott, was born in Montgomery in 1963. Daughter Becky was born at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane in 1964. Floyd flew KC-135 tankers during the Vietnam War and commanded the 43rd Air Refueling Squadron at Fairchild AFB for many years. He had many overseas tours of duty where the family could not accompany him; the longest were stints of a year in Thailand from 1966 to 1967 and a year in Turkey from 1972 to 1973. Floyd achieved the rank of full bird colonel in 1970. The family was also stationed in Minot, N.D., Shreveport, La., Plattsburg, N.Y., and Omaha, Neb., as base commander, where he retired in January 1978. After Floyd retired, he and Shirley returned to Spokane. They were able to do some traveling and even went to Europe until her health declined. Shirley passed away June 7, 2002. Floyd began working on the family farm in 1978, keeping it up for the next 35 years. Floyd married Helen Miller Hartung, who also grew up in Pomeroy, on July 24, 2004, in Spokane. They enjoyed the next decade traveling in their motor home and spending winters in Arizona. At age 86, Floyd could no longer work on the farm and it was sold to his nephews, Dan and Tom. Floyd enjoyed fishing, hunting - he loved going to "hunting camp" in the fall in Pomeroy with his nephews, Bob, Tom and Dan, even though in later years he couldn't hunt. He enjoyed looking for mushrooms in the Blue Mountains and would come home with plenty of mushrooms. And, last but not least, golf. He loved the game of golf. Anytime he would travel anywhere, the golf clubs had to go along. He worked out religiously and kept himself in tip-top shape. We thought he would be 100 years old someday. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, L.J. and Belinda Geiger; brothers Arnold Geiger and Cecil Geiger; nephews Pat, Mike and Edward Geiger; and stepdaughter Carreen Faubus. Viewing is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane. A rosary will follow at 6 p.m. The funeral requiem Mass is planned for 11 a.m. next Wednesday at Assumption Catholic Church in Spokane. Following the Mass, travel and interment with full military honors will be at the Pomeroy Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Spokane Meals on Wheels program.
