He had been hospitalized intermittently here as well as in Iowa City for 13 months. Death was attributed to cancer. Born in Maxwell, Iowa, Dec.19, 1932, he was the son of Sam and Mabel Ballard. When he was young, the family moved to Marshalltown and he was graduated with the class of 1952 from Marshalltown High School where he was prominent in athletics, as a member of the football, basketball and track teams. ON AUG. 1, 1952 he was married to Barbara Bushina and they had always made their home in Marshalltown. For the last 10 years Mr. Ballard had been employed at Lennox Industries Inc., and was a foreman in the cabinet shop. Mr. Ballard was widely known in Central Iowa, as well as on the national level trap shooting circles having set a world record in the Class A Division at the National shoot in Vandalia, Ohio in 1964, as well as winning the Baby Grand Shoot. This year he won the Iowa State Doubles Championship. He had won numerous other trophies and awards in the trap shooting field. He was a member of the Marshall Gun Club. SURVIVING ARE his widow and two sons, Mike and Bob Ballard, both at home. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Clyde (Mabel) Huff of Marshalltown and three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Friest of Garden City, Mrs. Billie Huff of Marshalltown, Mrs. Melvin Furrow of Albuquerque, N.M., and seven step-brothers including Billie, Dick and Jim Huff, all of Marshalltown. His paternal grandmother, Mrs. William Ballard of Maxwell, also survives. Services will be from the chapel of Estel-Perrin Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Howard Marty, pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church, in charge. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Ballard set a world trap-shooting record in the national shoot in Vandalia, Ohio, in 1964. Last year he won the Iowa doubles championship, and was named captain of the 1965 Des Moines Register and Tribune All-Iowa Trapshooting team. Survivors include his wife, two sons and mother, all of Marshalltown, and three sisters and five step brothers.
