F, 194th New York infantry DEMISE OF F. R. VINCENT After a brief but very severe illness Floyd R. Vincent passed away at an early hour Thursday. His condition was critical all yesterday, but his friends hoped for a change for the better. He was ill less than a week with pneumonia but all that loving friends, neighbors and physicians could do was of no avail. The events of the last two years in which his eldest daughter came down with an incurable disease and died but a short time ago, the constant attendance by her bedside here and in Chicago for weeks and month undermined his health and resources and left him illy prepared to combat pneumonia. The members of the Workmen order, of which the deceased was a member, did all in their power to alleviate his sufferings, providing nurses and staying with him constantly to the end, which came shortly before 1 o’clock this morning. He was conscious up to a sort time before his death. Mr. Vincent was about 52 years of age and had lived here a number of years, in the early days being engaged in the florist and market garden business with W. W. Seekins, now of Duluth. His wife died a decade ago. His only daughter, Miss Nellie, left a few weeks ago for a distant point in Washington, near Wenatchee. Several telegrams sent to the nearest office there have yet failed to bring a reply. Mr. Vincent was born in Tioga county, Pa. His mother survives him and is a resident of New York state. Mr. Vincent entered the service of the United States April 5th, 1865, as a private of Company F, 194th Regiment of New York Volunteers. He served until the close of the war when he was discharged by special order of the war department. He has long been a member of Wm. H. Seward post, G.A.R., of this city. Jamestown Weekly Alert, Thursday, December 16, 1897, Page 8. ****** There was a large attendance at the funeral of Floyd R. Vincent today. The Methodist church was crowded, many standing up. Rev. Ryan delivered a short address. The Workmen were in charge of the ceremonies and were assisted by the members of Wm. Seward post, G.A.R. that furnished the pall bearers for the occasion. They were Comrades S.K. McGinnis, W. W. Graves, J. F. Vennum, H. Porter, E. L. Calkins and J. E. Herbert.
