Carstensen was born on Friday; December 19, 1941 in Waterloo; Black Hawk County, Iowa. He was the son of: Lester and Ruth (Murty) Carstensen. Raised and educated in the Gladbrook; Tama County, Iowa area. Floyd graduated from the Gladbrook High School in 1961. He began driving trucks with his father and in 1964 he joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. After returning from the service, he began driving again and later worked as a farmhand for Bob Weise. He also worked 20 years for the Tama Meat Packing Company in Tama; Tama County, Iowa and 10 years for the Meskwaki Bingo Casino and Hotel. In July 1968 Floyd was united in marriage to Marilyn Niedermann in Reinbeck; Tama County, Iowa and they made their home in Gladbrook, Iowa. Floyd's memberships include the Peace United Church of Christ, Ehrig-McTurk Post of the American Legion, charter member of the Wolf Creek Saddle Club and he had been a Boy Scout Leader. Floyd T. Carstensen, age: 65, passed away on Monday (Christmas Day); December 25, 2006 at his home in Gladbrook surrounded by his family. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife: Marilyn; his two children: Pam (Craig) Long and John Carstensen, all of Gladbrook, Iowa; his three grandchildren; his father: Lester Carstensen of Gladbrook, Iowa and his two brothers: Loyd "Tweet" (Ruth) Carstensen of Montezuma; Poweshiek County, Iowa and Junior (Lori) Carstensen of Chelsea; Tama County, Iowa. Preceding him in death are his mother and all four of his grand parents. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be at the Goettsch~Perrin Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Friday; December 29, 2006 at the Peace United Church of Christ with Pastor Robert Doner officiating. Interment will be at the Crystal Township Cemetery, also in Tama County, Iowa near Garwin, with a flag presentation by Ehrig-McTurk Post of the American Legion. A memorial fund is being established and may be directed to his family.
