Friday, July 19, 2019 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield, NE. Read More	Floydene Esther Wiig-Johnston-Mathiesen, 87 of South Sioux City, NE passed away on July 13, 2019 at a Sioux City hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 19, 2019 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield, NE. Floydene was born July 10, 1932 in Allen, NE, the daughter of Floyd and Ruth (Aglor) Wiig. She married Willard Johnston in 1951 and they were blessed with five children while living on the family farm near Waterbury. In 1970 she married James Melvin Mathiesen who had five children. She taught for thirty-seven years in the Siouxland area while traveling back and forth to her home in Lincoln, where she retired in 1991. In 1974 she received one of the highest honors, Elementary Teacher of the Year in Nebraska, an honor that is noted nationally. Floydene was a talented pianist and she organized many musical productions with her students. She enjoyed traveling to Branson to attend country music concerts, and was involved with her church group. She was also a huge Nebraska Women's Basketball and Football fan. We are missing her more than words can express. Survivors include her children, Crystal Sparks and her children John and Joy Sparks; Bill (Terri) Johnston and children, Jason, Justin, Jeremy, and Joshua (Shannyn) Johnston; Tim (Debbie) Johnston and children, Chad (Lori) Johnston, Rochelle (Jeremy) Reavis, and Angela (Jason) Meyer; and Kelli Rae Theiss; step-children, Donna (Jerry) Schroeder, Barbara (Jerry) Baumgart, April (Steve) Rahn, and Steve (Michelle) Mathiesen; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Paul (Jan) Wiig and June (George) Kourpias. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ruth Wiig; her husbands, Willard Johnston and James Melvin Mathiesen; a son, Bradley Johnston; stepson, James Mathiesen; and brothers Harold (Janet) Wiig and Duane Wiig.
