Folkert Hedden, one of Monticello's octogenarians, passed away at the McDonald hospital at 1 a.m. last Monday. He had been in fair health, until he suffered a stroke paralysis two weeks ago. He was given the best of medical care but due to the infirmities of old age was unable to recuperate. Funeral services for Mr. Hedden were held at St. Matthew's Lutheran church today at 11 o'clock. The services were in charge of Mr. Hedden's pastor, Rev. Henry L. Adix. Native of Germany Mr. Hedden was a native of Germany. He was born March 18,1858, at Repsholt and was confirmed in the Lutheran church on Easter, 1873, at Neustadt, Goedens. Mr. and Mrs. Hedden were married in the province of Ostfriesland, Germany, May 23, 1882. Four days after their marriage they sailed for the United States and settled in Wayne township where they lived for two years. Thereafter they lived for one year in Scotch Grove township, 17 years in Castle Grove township, and 21 years in the vicinity of Langworthy. Mr. and Mrs. Hedden retired from active farm work in 1920 and came make their home in Monticello. They purchased a residence on West Clark street where the home had since been made. Mrs. Hedden died July 13, 1931, following a stroke of paralysis which she suffered a few days before her death. No children were born to this union. Had Mrs. Hedden lived until the following day, she and her husband would have been privileged to have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Throughout his active life Mr. Hedden followed the vocation of a farmer. He was well and favorably known by a large circle of friends. He is survived by one brother, Henry Hedden, of Scotch Grove township, seven nieces and two nephews.
