Read More	=================================== Rockville Tribune Rockville, Indiana Tuesday, October 8, 1918 edition "Forrest Hobson First Liberty Township Boy to Die in Service" Forrest Hobson's name will go down in history as the first Liberty township boy to give up his life while serving his country in the Allied War, and it will be recorded that his was the first body to be returned to the county of his birth for burial. The funeral services held at the home of his parents last Friday morning was one of, if not the largest ever held in the community, hundreds of sorrowing friends being present. It was a military funeral, eleven members of Company "E" under Captain Isaac R. Sprouse attending from Rockville, and firing a salute after the body was lowered into the grave. "Taps" were sounded by bugler Lee Smith. Kingman Liberty Guards were also present, as was a band from this town. The following obituary of the life of the young sailor has been written for The Tribune. OBITUARY Forrest Kenneth Hobson, son of Ira E. and Nora Hobson was born in the home where the parents now reside, January 10, 1898, and died at the Naval Hospital, Norfolk, Va., Sept. 29, 1918, at the age of 20 years, 8 months and 19 days. He attended the Tangier School, graduating from high school in the class of 12 in May 1917. Forrest was an energetic boy, dutiful to his parents, quiet and unassuming among his companions. When he became a wage earner, he saved his money and invested in Liberty Bonds. He enlisted in the Navy July 1, 1918, and waited anxiously for the call to service, which came on August 13, at which time he went to camp at Norfolk, Virginia. His letters home were always cheerful and his enthusiasm for his work grew day by day. He was deeply appreciative of the work being done for the soldier boys and spoke especially of the good work of the Y.M.C.A. He was to have gone on his first sea trip September 20th, but instead was admitted to the hospital Sept. 23, suffering from influenza, causing his death which came Sept 29, at 10:04 p.m. During his brief illness he was cheerful, winning the admiration of his nurses, who spoke of his patience and his determination to get well. Forrest is the first boy from Liberty township to give his life in the service of his country. He leaves to mourn his loss, his father, mother and sister Pauline, besides a host of relatives and friends. The entire community share in the grief of the family. The funeral services were conducted by the Revs. Airhart of Greencastle, and Levi Wooody of Kingman at the home, Friday Oct. 4 at 11 o'clock. Burial at Rush Creek cemetery. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. ===================================
