His mother died when he was very young, and he made his home with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Porter, who live on a farm northwest of Ackley. He served in World War II and saw action in the European theatre. He and Marion Aldinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Aldinger of Ackley, were married on November 17, 1943, in Yakima, Washington, while he was stationed there.
