Today (Sept. 13, 2021) I came across a bit of information in an unlikely source: a book I'm re-reading in honor of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 entitled "Let's Roll! Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage", a book about Todd Beamer and others who battled the terrorists onboard United Flight 93 and ultimately crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. During an Oracle corporate sales reward trip to Rome during the week before the tragedy, Todd's wife Lisa was preparing for a Bible study she was to lead when they returned home. The study focused on the Old Testament book of Esther, a young Jewish woman who became the Queen of Persia. Esther was orphaned as a child and then adopted by her uncle Mordecai. This is a hypocorism for his full name Mordechai Bilshan. (A hypocorism is a "pet name is a name used to show affection for a person or object. It may be a diminutive form of a person's name, such as Izzy for Isabel or Bob for Robert, or it may be unrelated"). So, I have settled on "Mordecai" as the variation I use in my tree and memorials.
