Conrad, 79, a retired Priest of the Diocese of Davenport, who died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at the Kahl Home in Davenport, were held Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport. Most Rev. William E. Franklin, DD was the Celebrant of the Liturgy; additional concelebrants were Priests of the Diocese of Davenport. Additional services and Mass of Christian Burial were held Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Melcher. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bauer. He was born on March 10, 1924, in Marion County, the son of John and Mary (Schneider) Conrad. He attended elementary and high school at Dallas Consolidated High School. He attended St. Ambrose College, Davenport and Loras College, Dubuque. He also attended Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. and was ordained on May 26, 1949 by Most Rev. Edward A. Fitzgerald in Dubuque. Fr. Conrad's first assignment was as assistant pastor at St. Joseph Church, Davenport from 1949 until 1951 when he was assigned to the faculty of St. Ambrose Academy in Davenport until 1958. He also served as administrator of St. James, Princeton, from June 1952 to September 1953, and assisted at St. James, Washington, from September 1953 to June 1955. He was on the faculty of Assumption High School, Davenport from 1958 to 1969. From August 1958 to June 1969 he served as administrator of St. James, Princeton, and became founding pastor of Our Lady of the River, LeClaire/Princeton, from June 1969 to July 1975. Additional assignments were as pastor of St. Joseph, DeWitt, from 1975 to 1987; pastor of St. Anne, Welton, from 1978 to 1984; and as pastor of St. Mary, Williamsburg, and St. Joseph, Parnell, from 1987 to 1996. He retired in September 1996. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus. He was a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus, 532 and 4th Degree Loras Assembly, 260. He had also served as an officer for the Knights of Columbus, serving as Past State Chaplain. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Margueritte and Paul Conklin, Frances Barga, and Genevieve and Luke Schoenlein; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Jeanette Conrad and Victor and Lee Conrad; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
