Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison, Kansas has been entrusted with the final arrangements. Fr. Basil was born May 30, 1912 in Defiance, Iowa. He attended Des Moines Catholic College for one year, and graduated from St. Benedict's College, Atchison, Kansas in 1937, majoring in philosophy. Fr. Basil professed his vows as a Benedictine monk on June 13, 1935, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 18, 1940 by Bishop Paul Schulte. Fr. Basil spent most of his years as a much loved pastor and chaplain. He served as Assistant Pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul, Seneca, Kansas, St. Benedict's, Atchison, Kansas, St. Benedict's, Kansas City, Kansas, St. John's, Burlington, Iowa, and as Chaplain of St. Scholastica Monastery, Chicago, Illinois and as Pastor of St. Bede's, Kelly, Kansas, Sts. Peter and Paul, Seneca, Kansas, St. John's, Burlington, Iowa, St. Benedict's, Kansas City, Kansas, St. Joseph/St. Benedict, Kansas City, Kansas and St. Joseph's, Atchison, Kansas. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Alice Stoltz, Harlan, Iowa and the monastic community of St. Benedict's Abbey.
