Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Union Center Baptist Church in Union Center with the Rev. Thomas Howie and the Rev. Thomas Grey officiating. Burial will be at the White Owl cemetery following the services. Kinkade Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Frances was born May 21, 1919, in Folkston, Ga., the second youngest of six children to Benjamin R. and E. Mabel (Lukens) Cushing. She was united in marriage to Rev. James T. Howie Sept. 4, 1948, in Marcus. Frances worked as a secretary for the Health Department of Pennington County for 10 years. She also assisted her husband in the ministry, pastoral leadership and para-church organizations in the United States and Canada. For two and one-half years she and her husband worked as missionaries in Peru, South America, serving under Regions Beyond Health Care Center in 2000. Survivors include her son, Rev. William Thomas Howie of Rio, Wis.; three daughters, Midget Darragh of New Underwood, Darlene and Jim Callenberg of Colorado and Pauline and Rev. Thomas Grey of Pardeeville, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband, Rev. James T. Howie, Oct. 11, 1999; three brothers, Lawrence, Samuel and Ralph Cushing; two sisters, Helen Thayer and Sylvia M. Sirag; and one granddaughter, Darlene Fowler.
