This couple then... Read More	McCASHLAND, FRANCES DABNEYFANNIE—Frances Dabney Ogg, daughter of John Wesley and Martha Groves Ogg, was born January 2, 1890, in Scottville, Ill. She was the youngest of five children. Fannie died in the Thayer County Memorial hospital in Hebron on August 8, 1973. She moved to Geneva, Neb., with her parents when she was seven years old. She was a 1909 graduate of Geneva high school. On April 30, 1911, she was married to James Ray McCashland. They homesteaded near Chugwater, Wyo., where she taught a country school for nine years. This couple then returned to the Davenport and Geneva areas, and Fannie continued teaching school. In 1925 the McCashlands bought a farm northwest of Carleton. Here they made their home until retiring to the village of Carleton in 1962. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1961 and Mr. McCashland passed away in July of 1962. Fannie and Jim took Elizabeth Ogg into their home and raised her as their daughter. Elizabeth also preceded her foster mother in death in 1970. Fannie was a life-long Methodist. Her great-grandfather had been the first circuit-rider in Virginia. Fannie united with the Carleton congregation on November 8, 1926, and remained faithful to her church until her death. One of Fannie’s greatest interests was family history. She became a member of the French Huguenot Colony society and actively contributed to its work. Her ancestors were among the first 500 Huguenots who came to America. She also discovered that she was a direct descendent of Agrippa D’Abigne (Dabney) of the Court in France. She traced her genealogy to the year 1160. Fannie was an artist and poet. She always had a beautiful flower garden. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and sisters, her husband and her foster daughter, Elizabeth. She is survived by Elizabeth’s four children, Bryan A. Morris of Philippine Island, Cark A.F.B., Carol Frahm of Golden Col.; James R. Morris of north Platte and Judy Servantex of Estes park, Col.; 16 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services for Mrs. McCashland were conducted Saturday, August 11, at 10 a.m. in the Carleton United Methodist church. Rev. Charles W. Leypoldt presided. Larry Nippert of Carleton sang “God Understands” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Mrs. Marjorie Dowdy accompanied. Casket bearers were Gary Brinegar, Henry Braun, Don Smith, Harlan Horner, Ben Headrick and Don Widler. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery, Geneva, Neb. The Nebraska Signal 16 August 1973 page 5.
