She was born June 13, 1900, in Canaan Twp., daughter of the late John Perry and Julia Sutton Mingus. Mrs. Carpenter was a former member of Canaan Grange and a member of Athens Chapter 175 Order of the Eastern Star. She attended Canaanville United Methodist Church. She attended Weiss Grade School and graduted from Canaan High School second grade in 1918 and first grade in 1920. She passed Boxwell Exam and attended Ohio University. Mrs. Carpenter and her husband, Burt, were owners of Carpenter Ice Cream Parlor in Athens until it closed in 1942. After 1942, she worked on the family farm. She is survived by a granddaughter and husband of Athens; a niece, of Canton; three nephews; and a daughter-in-law of Jacksonville, Fla. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Burtyal Carpenter in 1967; a son, Bert E.; three sisters, Myrtle Hudnell, Grace Durfee and Flossie Mingus; three brothers, Leslie C., Freddie and Edwin Mingus; a half-sister, Ida O'Brien; and a half-brother, John H. Mingus. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Hughes-Blower Funeral Home with the Rev. William Strausbaugh officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where an Eastern Star service will be conducted at 7:30.
