Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Frank Hay and Jamie Myers officiating. Mrs. Thomas was born September 4, 1929 in Orangeburg, the daughter of the late James A. Gibson and the late Vernon Hughes Gibson of Cordova. She graduated from Cordova High School and attended Winthrop College. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was employed by Azalea Meats, Fort Sumter Petroleum and was co-owner of Sealtest Dairy. She was an avid animal lover, avid reader, loved flowers and was also an avid flower arranger. On Saturday, August 29, 1987, Frances Thomas was featured in the State Newspaper on an article of Cordova; The Pulse of Political Pundits and a Norman Rockwell South. She was pictured hanging her laundry on her favorite Japanese Magnolia Tree in the yard of her home in her beloved town of Cordova. She was the widow of the late Jacob M. (Jake) Thomas and was preceded in death by one grandson, Adam A. Baltzegar. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Jerry A. (Colver) Miller, of Orangeburg, Mrs. Kenny P. (Betsy) Baltzegar, Mrs. Bret (Jane) Moore, both of Cordova, Mrs. Ray (Helen) Taylor, of Columbia; five grandchildren, Stacy B. Pauley, Allen S. Miller, Blake H. Miller, Clayton J. Boltin, Kristen Bennett; one great-grandson, Seth A. Pauley. Friends may call at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry (Colver) Miller, Orangeburg. Memorials may be made to the Maude Shipley SPCA, P.O. Box 1584, Orangeburg, SC 29116. Thompson Funeral Home of Orangeburg is in charge of arrangements.
