Description	:	Frances Helen Graham Kleiss, daughter of Brownlie Graham and Dora Hayes Graham, was born December 20, 1914, at Maplehurst Farm near Brooklyn in Poweshiek County, Iowa. She was raised in that area and received her early education in rural schools and graduated in 1931 from Brooklyn High School. On February 21, 1933, Frances was married to Herbert Ernest Kleiss home of her parents in rural Brooklyn, the present Madison Church of Christ parsonage. Read More	Frances Helen Graham Kleiss, daughter of Brownlie Graham and Dora Hayes Graham, was born December 20, 1914, at Maplehurst Farm near Brooklyn in Poweshiek County, Iowa. She was raised in that area and received her early education in rural schools and graduated in 1931 from Brooklyn High School. On February 21, 1933, Frances was married to Herbert Ernest Kleiss home of her parents in rural Brooklyn, the present Madison Church of Christ parsonage. They operated a dairy farm for most of their farming career at one time delivering milk in the Brooklyn area as Kleiss Quality Dairy. At the time of her final illness Frances was still living on that farm, her home of 67 years. An avid reader and a woman of strong faith, Frances was a member of the Madison Church of Christ, where she taught adult Sunday school classes for many years and served in the women's groups. She served as church clerk for over fifty years. Frances was a long time member of the Emanon Club of Brooklyn. Frances was known for her hospitality and culinary skills and was famous for her bread-baking ability. To some of her young relatives she was the "cookie lady." She enjoyed knitting and sewing, producing dozens of sweaters, robes and quilts. She was an avid gardener, raising food and designing beautiful flowers. Many of her flowers found their way into arrangements that she made for the church's Sunday services. Frances was known among family and friends for her hospitality. As a cook, her breads and cookies were favorites. In her later years she made dozens of quilts. Frances is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Laura and Roger Hucke of Fredericksburg and Margery and David DeVilder of Brooklyn; one son and his wife, Paul and Peggy Kleiss of Ulman Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Frances died Monday, December 18, 2000, in Metropolitan Medical Center, Des Monies, Iowa. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; three sons, Lewis, Richard and Alan; two brothers and five sisters, Jeanetta Clayton Hartshorn, Sarah Burnell, Agnes Lang, Carrie Bolen, Archie Graham, Paul Graham and Olive Abel; and one great-grandson, Brandon Jons. Funeral services for Frances Kleiss were held at 11 AM, Friday, December 22, 2000, at the Madison Church of Christ, rural Brooklyn. Mr. Dennis Smith, Minister, officiated. The organist was Jan Read and the Pianist was Robin Jons. Vocalists were Robin Jons and Steve Hucke. Flower attendants were Malcom and Helen Mayo and Ronald and Judie Clayton. Casket-bearers were John William Hall, Ronald Read, Laurel Keller, David Hendrickson, Marvin Keller and Mark Lang. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Nevenhoven Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements
