Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of Paul and Harriet (King) Daly. She was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church in Philip, South Dakota. Pierre, South Dakota, the daughter of Paul and Harriet (King) Daly. She was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church in Philip, South Dakota. She lived with her parents, brothers and sisters in a log house on their ranch on Plum Creek, near Milesville, South Dakota. When Frances was three, her parents sold out and moved to the new ranch south of Philip on Bad River so that their children could attend school. Frances grew up with her brothers and sisters Bill, Merle, Maurice, Tad, Russell, Thomas, Gertrude and Helen riding horses, milking cows, and cutting hay. She graduated from Philip High School in 1934 where she was salutatorian for the senior class and wrote the class history. Shortly after graduation, Frances began her career in the post office in Philip. She met and married Joe Murphy and their son Joe "Spud" was born in 1940. Frances and Spud spent World War II in Rapid City and moved to Philip in 1946 where she operated the Cozy Hotel until she got her old job back in the Philip Post Office, where the Dalys, O'Connors, Murphys, O'Connells, Kings, Harts, Barbers, Prices, Magnusons, and good friends made living pretty nice. In 1959 she transferred to the post office in San Bruno, California where she lived near her sister Helen Barber and family. She retired in 1973 and moved across the bay to Pleasanton, California to be near Joe, his wife Diana and her two grandchildren, Brian and Jennifer. Here she developed her passion for painting of flowers and landscapes which became loving gifts to family and friends. In 1992 she moved to Las Vegas to be close to her family. She joined the art club, continued to paint and made many good friends. In the summer of 2003 she wrote her life story. Grateful for having shared her life are her son Joe and his wife Diana of Las Vegas, Nevada; her grandson Brian of Sedona, Arizona, her granddaughter Jennifer Strader and her husband John of Henderson, Nevada; and her nieces, nephews and cousins for all of whom she felt tremendous affection. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, two nephews Paul and William Daly and her niece Doris Daly Blanusa. Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Ron Garry as celebrant. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery, Philip.
